I’ve been trading for 4 years. The thing I can tell you for sure is that you don’t want to get involved in FOREX unless you have cash to lose. The reason I say that isn’t because you are guaranteed to lose money long term but you are sure to short term, while you are learning. I can go over the differences of FOREX to the stock market and the very important differences if you’d like.
You are so right about bots..NONE of them work. Sure, some can work short term but the problem for the programmers is that the FOREX market is so liquid that the market never stays the same for very long. A strategy that works solid for 6 months on a currency pair can suddenly throw off bad trade after bad trade. You definitely need a human at the helm.

I don’t know what strategy you are planning to learn about or what time frame but here’s a look at one strategy that can be profitable in FOREX:

You are right not to be interested in Robots we completely agree.
Our site contains 100% Independent and Honest reviews of Trading systems and services, so it wouldn’t be a bad place for you to start. We are truly and honestly not selling anything and are in the process of having a regular feature in the Investors Chronicle, you can read the first published feature on our website too.
We don’t usually review free Trading systems on the site but one we did review was 3 Ducks. The reason we did, it’s a bit of a gem and we always point beginners in that direction. For a free system it has some very sound principles and can be used as a basis for Forex trading for all beginners, in our opinion.

There is no substitute for learning how to trade and no robot will help you, you might want to google DrForex who wrote Bird Watching in Lion Country if you want a mentor.

You cannot have a mentor unless you are 100% sure that he is an expert and he is making a lot of money with forex trading and you must beleive that this kind will not hang in here (at yahoo answers).
some of these mentors are having a traning programs and launched an online courses with traning membership sites
you can look for some one and join his program
